The Bhagavad Gita and Me

September15

Sometimes I feel like Arjuna when I give constructive criticism. It is a necessary part of being a good friend to speak the truth, but sometimes it feels like you are going to war with your friends. It is done out of love though and is an essential part of being a friend. Even if I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news and tell my friends when they are wrong, I would want someone to do the same for me.

I could apply the Bhagavad Gita by being less selfish. Sometimes when completing a task I focus only on how it impacts me. I should change this manner of thinking, and instead, focus on how my actions are helping others. This will allow me to enjoy more of my day to day tasks, and respect others.

In ancient India, the Bhagavad Gita was about being selfless. It was about doing you duty for the happiness of others. In modern American society, we focus on putting our selves first. Americans think about their own happiness, and then the happiness of others. This is the exact opposite of the Bhagavad Gita.

The Bhagavad Gita could be used by rulers as a tool of oppression. They could tell an individual that serving them, or completing a task for them was being selfless. They could also say it was their duty to work for the ruler and use the Bhagavad as proof.

Feng Shui Your Room

September5

When I first started on my room I realized I had a lot of unnecessary objects just laying around. This was negative for the Chi of the room because they did not provide me with anything and were blocking the flow of positive energy in my room. So I removed them. Next, I started looking at the colors in my room for the five elements. I had lots of purple, brown, metallic gray, and blue around the room, but was lacking greens and reds. To solve this problem I added two plants to my bookshelf. Since the green represents growth and expansion, I hope it adds to the positive and strong feel of the room. I also think my room honors Bagua because of the colors and art. The one painting above my bed is from Scotland. It is an image of the street my mom grew up on in Kincardineshire, Scotland. This makes me feel connected to family and travel. Over all, I think Feng Shuing my room was definitely a positive thing.

Taoist Walk

September5

The most powerful sensation on the walk was the harsh cold wind. I had never been on the path before and was amazed that our school had such a nice trail. On the walk, I heard the wind through the trees and leaves rustling. I smelled dew covered grass and flowers. On the walk, I thought about the flavor of my coffee and the upcoming USMNT game tonight. I felt calm and relaxed, but cold on the walk. This experience can be compared to Taoism because it helped us connect to nature, relax, and think freely without being overwhelmed by others.
